"Unforgettable", Natalie Cole and Nat King Cole Painting by k Madison Moore

"Unforgettable"
Natalie Cole and Nat King Cole

16 x 16 inches
Oil Painting on Canvas

I always adored Natalie Cole and was fascinated with her life story.
I give her a lot of credit for the way she straightened out her life and moved forward.
Unforgettable was the song that brought her career back.
What a wonderful, creative tribute to the father that she adored.

The first time I saw this performance I cried and I still get tears every time I hear it.
I just had to paint them together making him kind of in the heavens singing with her.

I hope you enjoy this.

Natalie Maria Cole (born February 6, 1950) is an American singer, songwriter and performer. She achieved success in her early career as an R&Bstar, but smoothly changed her repertoire toward a more pop and jazzoriented musical style in the early 1990s. She has won nine Grammy Awards. Cole has been singing since she was 5.

Cole may be best remembered for her 1991 album, Unforgettable...with Love. , featuring her vocal arrangements of her father's greatest hits with piano accompaniment by her uncle Ike Cole. She sang 22 songs from Nat King Cole's collection including  The Very Thought of Youand with a little help from technology, performed the title song "Unforgettable" as a duet with her father, using her father's original recording. As a single, it reached #14 on Billboard Magazine's Hot 100 chart and #10 on the R&B chart, and went gold and the video single six times platinum. The album was also a great success; selling over 7 million copies in the United States alone, and won Cole several Grammy Awards, including Album of The Year, as well as Record of the Year and Best Traditional Pop Vocal Performances  for the track "Unforgettable".

Nathaniel Adams Coles (March 17, 1919 – February 15, 1965) known professionally as Nat "King" Cole, was an American musician who first came to prominence as a leading jazz pianist. Although an accomplished pianist, he owes most of his popular musical fame to his soft baritone  voice, which he used to perform in big band and jazz genres. He was one of the first black Americans to host a television variety show, and has maintained worldwide popularity since his untimely death; he is widely considered one of the most important musical personalities in United States history.

Sneakers For Jesus by k madison Moore

Big Old Reds
48 x 60 inches

I was contacted by Rev. Bruce Schoup, Interim Paster of the First Congregational Church, United Church of Christ in Poughkeepsie, New York about using my Big Old Reds painting of red sneakers to use as his church banner for his Easter sermon this year.
This was so surprising to me as I had no idea what these sneakers could possibly represent for easter.

Here is what he said:
The theme comes out of the Easter Story, particularly as recorded in John's Gospel.  When Mary discovers the stone rolled away from the entrance to the tomb, she runs to tell the others.  When Peter and the Disciple Whom Jesus Loved, hear, they run to see for themselves.  The story emphasizes that the Disciple Whom Jesus Loved outran Peter--implying they were running as fast as they could.

In both cases the emphasis is on running, not hurrying.  Add to this the awareness that the common shoe of the day is a sandal (not easy to run in) and both men and women wore long robes.  The only way the three could effectively run would have been to kick off their shoes, and hike up their garments.  Now add to this image the awareness that this is not something mature men and women do, especially in a more traditional era like that of Jesus.

Clearly the three are not worrying about how they will appear to others, or who will notice.  Clearly the three have heard a message that is so urgent they give it their all.

So why the sneakers--I wanted to communicate a message of running, not walking.  Sneakers convey that sense.  I wanted people wondering about what sneakers, running had to do with Easter.  Then we talked about the passage.

The message ended on a question, "For what are you willing to run?  For what are you willing to give your all and not care about what others will think?"  In this congregation, people will have heard those two questions very broadly, and to think about one's very values in life.

what a cool creative way to get a point across.

Now Rev, Bruce is sending me great poster. I may hang this at one of my summer BBQ's this year just for fun and a conversation piece. Thanks Rev Bruce for this wonderful idea.

I was researching on what is the most expensive wine in the world and came across "Diadema."
Needless to say, I immediately designed a painting around this beautiful bottle. Since the bottle is encrusted with Diamonds, what better to add a few next to a classy crystal wine glass.
I found some wonderful information about Diadema  here

Diadema Diamante is the most expensive and the most precious bottle of wine in the world. Created by the renowned creator of luxury goods, Alberto Giannotti owner of Villa Olmo di Impruneta in Florence, the bottle doesn’t feature a regular label but several karats of diamonds. 134 diamonds to be exact! The precious stones have been used to create the most expensive label in the world. The unique bottle, worth 8,000 euros, contains a superb Super Tuscan wine made of a Sangiovese and Syrah mix. A pleasure not only for the palate but also for the eyes. That’s not all…for the even more demanding consumers, there is also a magnum version that includes 180 diamonds, equal to 5.2 karats, and is selling for 12,000 euros.
But these amazing bottles don’t feature only diamonds…other precious materials. The stones are set in white gold on the silver label, and are all created by the expert hands of master Florentine artisans. They are the result of the collaboration with the historical laboratory Orafo Torrini, who has been working gold and precious materials in Florence since 1396. Each bottle comes in a leather cover and with a certificate of guarantee for the diamonds. In addition, the covers can be personalized with a choice of various types of leather. “

Thanks Susan.

When I was in my 20's I had 2 volkswagons. They were the greatest little cars. Only $5.00 a week for gas. Boy....those days are surely gone!

UK Reading Contemporary Art Show, k Madison Moore

All of the paintings on the left panel are mine and the 3 donut paintings at the top on the right panel as well. Cool!

Reading Contemporary Art Fair

This exciting new event was organized by the team behind the highly successful windsor Contemporary Art Fair which is now already in it's sixth year.

I was represented by Art Under A Monkey. Thanks to Susan Brownlowe curator who just informed me that we are also doing the exciting Windsor Art Fair in November 2010.

The two Huge Penguin Books and the Goldens Syrup on the right panel are mine as well. Susan said these were a great hit. I am so happy. Thanks again Susan.

I rarely do Still Life in this form any more but I enjoy doing it for Susan.
