Art within Art Series

I gave this series thought and concept work for over a year and finally executed it. It has been almost a year that I have been creating for this series and is the longest running series yet. I am thrilled at the response. Thanks to my Collectors and New Collectors for your purchases and commissions for this series. Also to my fans for all the great comments. Very much appreciated.

I think this series really speaks for itself. I study each artist as usual and try to gain insight to their personality from what I read and what I see in their work and many times will purchase a video about their lives if available. Then I start to design the painting around elements that I would have or rooms I would live in if I were that artist.

I design the rooms around "my impression" of clips from many of that artists paintings to create the composition for that particular artist. I try to use elements for the flooring, walls and paintings from their work to make the piece all about that artists but with a twist! Using as many bold colors and shapes always makes me happy and creates a definite connection to the artist I am painting.... If I were Kandinsky this is what my Den would look like.

This is such an exciting Series for me. I have been working on this idea for a very long time but just could not get all the components together in my mind to execute it.

It wasn't until I found a large box of very old sketches and recordings of work that I did many years ago when I was studying the masters and this original concept was born.
Once I saw the sketches and my notes, the compositions for this series just flowed and I couldn't paint them soon enough.

With a new series it generally takes awhile for it to catch on.
This series was different. Many of my collectors jumped at owning one or more as well as many new wonderful collectors that I have gained from this series.

I think my excitement for this series shows in every painting that I do. Each one has an excerpt from a painting of the Master that I chose for the piece composed as the Wine Label for the bottles. Since wines have vintage dates, the dates I include, are the birth and death of that particular artist and is a homage of sorts to that Master.

This will be a continuous series for me with no end. I will be painting them in small and large format. I have requests for future projects for installation in fine restaurants and wineries and will be announcing those projects in time along with photos.

Painting with The Masters

The Masters Series and Segments

When I first started studying art, of course I went right for the masters to learn techniques and to try too infiltrate their lives through art history. It's endless and always so much more to learn. I knew somewhere in my work along the way, that I would have to somehow incorporate my love for each and every Master Artist into my own compositions.

  This is when I started painting my Art Museum Collection Series of Art within Art. The joy of designing the museum interiors fulfilled the architecture and design part of me and made them more fun to paint, as I knew they where the museums of my mind and creativity and not actual brick and mortar museums.   Then I pick one of my favorite Masters to study for that museum exhibit. I study ad research and delve into my art history books and sometimes read for hours trying to imagine myself as that artist by escaping into their world though the words and their paintings in my books. After coming back to reality a bit, I select what painting’s are my favorites and the frames for them and on to the people viewing the art.

In addition, I have been working on a new approach to my Museum Paintings. In some of the future paintings I will be incorporating Still Life and an assortment of unique interiors. This entire series will remain with the theme of Paintings within Paintings and People Viewing Art but this Segment of the Masters Series will be titled the Art within Art Series.

My recent Segment to the Masters Series is my new Connoisseur Wine Masters Series. This is so exciting to me. I am really having a great time with this series and the ideas are just flowing so I know this will be a long series.

With this series I like to bring portions of the label into the dimension of reality, even if it is the foot of Etre's woman on to the leaf of the flower in the foreground of the painting. I like that little twist!

I will be doing several for each of my favorite artists and adding many more along the way as far back as the 14th Century.

Art Museum Collection Series

Madison's Art Museum Collection Series is another story. She actually did 3 museum paintings about 30 years ago. Madison's mentor that trained her in art restoration showed her a few photos of people viewing art at a recent exhibit that she attended and said, " Wouldn't these photo's make great paintings. At that, she took them home and made them into paintings for her. She never thought about them again. Not until she started her business on the Internet and saw a few artists working in this genre. She loved it. She wanted to do a Series, so she studied many of them to see what they were or were not doing. She found most artists concentrated on the people viewing the art and only included a part of the painting within, or part of the room. There her exhibits were born.

Madison decided that she would step the format up to 9" x 12", most were doing smaller. She wanted to show as much of the museum interior as possible in the space. The museum would include three to five paintings based on her impression of the old masters works. The people viewing the art would be small figures in the paintings to give the impression that the paintings within where huge with heavily detailed frames, yet in all essence, they were Miniature paintings within the painting.

Freedom, this Series gives Madison total freedom. Freedom to visit with the masters, read about their lives on a daily basis, read about their thoughts and what made them tick, why they painted what they painted. Freedom to paint her impressions of the Masters. Freedom to paint in so many colors. Palettes of colors in every hue and depth and pastel, all of which were so exhilarating to mix. Freedom to paint every and any subject from Renoir to Picasso. Freedom with style. Detail is her style, detail and more detail. She seems to always go back to the more realistic. Even the Masters that painted Impressionism that she includes in her Exhibits have that fine detail somewhere.

Some of the exhibits she has painted thus far include Picasso, Renoir, van Gogh, Michelangelo, Seurat, Godward, Warhol, Caillebotte, Margritte, Modigilani, Leighton,
Guayasamin, Picabia, O'Keefe and Klimt, to name a few and many, many more to come. On several occasions Madison has been asked to do a clients favorite artist in and exhibit or their children in an exhibit that they visited together. So many wonderful fun ideas.

Then there's the satisfaction of the reactions from Madison's collectors. She has gained so many wonderful collectors and when she started her Museum series the list grew even longer. "In reality, how many of us will ever own a painting of a Master?" Madison's little exhibits of the Masters makes it possible to own many of her Art Museum Collection Series with her impression of the Masters in miniature.

This was a fun painting but I got so much into detail

that it took a very long time to finish. Loved every minute if it!!

The figures had so many changes to my taste that they really

look nothing like de Lempicka's. The curtains are also from

another de Lempicka painting and I thought they would

look great with this composition.

I painted this for Valentines Day and for all the Lovers out

there. I thought it was a nice twist that the female was serenading

the man. The painting on the wall is one of my favorites of

Tamara's and thought the kiss was a good choice for this piece.

Tamara de Lempicka (Łempicka) (May 16, 1898–March 18, 1980), born Maria Górska in Warsaw, in was a Polish Art Deco painter and "the first woman artist to be a glamor star."

Lempicka is best known for her Art Deco-styled portraits. Sexy, bedroom-eyed women in stylish dress are rendered in haunting poses. Perhaps it was her own dramatic life mirrored in her art. Married twice to wealthy, she moved from her native Poland to Russia, and then to Paris. In 1918, she studied painting at the Academe de la Grand Chaumiere, and was privately tutored by Maurice Denis. In 1925 she exhibited her works at the first Art Deco show in Paris. She moved to America in 1939 with her second husband, Baron Raoul Kuffner. Her works appeared exclusively at many galleries and museums, but her artistic output decreased. In 1960 she changed her style to abstract art and began creating works with a spatula. After her husband died in 1962 she ceased painting and moved to Mexico.

Why I Use Canvas Hardwood Panels

Hardwood Panels and The Masters

Canvas is perceived by many people to be the best support for painting, but hardwood should not be shunned and in fact some would argue that it is a superior support as it is rigid, not flexible like canvas.

Many of the paintings that have survived the best from previous centuries are painted on wood panels. The surface being more rigid tends for less cracking of the paint.

Old Masters of the 14th & 15th centuries such as Michelangelo, Picasso and Van Gogh used wood panels primed with a chalk like material for their work as there was no canvas.

The Mona Lisa painted by Leonardo da Vinci in 1503-06 survives today and is painted on wood and in almost perfect condition and with little cracking.

Although they are quite time consuming to construct, I have chosen to use Custom Made Gallery Wrapped Linen Canvas
Hardwood Panels for all of my paintings.

MY CUSTOM FLOATER FRAMES

Although I do paint the sides of my paintings for those who prefer "not" to frame. I thought it would be nice to offer a beautiful, simple frame for those that "do" want to frame their paintings.
Many of my paintings include floater frames but may still be purchased without if you prefer.
If you see available paintings that are not framed upon request we will make a frame for you.
These frames are custom made for my paintings only and not for sale to other venues.
