WHY MANY ARTISTS DO NOT LIST PRICES

I have been asked many times why artists do not list prices.
There are many reasons.
If an artist sells paintings in galleries, they will sell around double or two thirds the price from that gallery, than they would on thier sites or blogs as the gallery charges a commission, shipping, insurance, etc. Listing prices lower on our sites upsets the gallery owners as of course the collectors can purchase lower from the artists.
Then, if the paintings do not sell in the galleries, the artists will pull them out and at that time may list them for sale on their sites. This causes a great deal of additional work to the artists already busy schedule. This is only one reason.
Another reason could be that the artists has collectors that purchase all the time so they may reduce the price of a painting for that particular customer. This is why I do not list my prices among other reasons.
Because prices are not listed does not mean that the painting may be unaffordable. In fact, you may find a painting that you like that has not sold that the artist will be happy to find a home for, so you may get yet even a better deal on this painting.
Many artists paint beautiful paintings that you would think are very expensive but you will be surprised how affordable they really are.
I know it is hard if a collector asks for a price and then decides they can not manage it and this makes them feel embarrassed to the artists. Please do not feel that way. My paintings are very affordable and I "never" take offense if the client decides not to purchase. Just having the contact and maybe adding you to my collectors list will be a pleasure. You may find something down the road that will suit your needs. Please don't hesitate. If you don't ask, you won't know!

My NEW BLOG - Painting with The Masters

The Masters Series and Segments

When I first started studying art, of course I went right for the masters to learn techniques and to try too infiltrate their lives through art history. It's endless and always so much more to learn. I knew somewhere in my work along the way, that I would have to somehow incorporate my love for each and every Master Artist into my own compositions.

  This is when I started painting my Art Museum Collection Series of Art within Art. The joy of designing the museum interiors fulfilled the architecture and design part of me and made them more fun to paint, as I knew they where the museums of my mind and creativity and not actual brick and mortar museums.   Then I pick one of my favorite Masters to study for that museum exhibit. I study ad research and delve into my art history books and sometimes read for hours trying to imagine myself as that artist by escaping into their world though the words and their paintings in the books. I imagine favorites and pick the frames for them and on to the people viewing the art.  what I think their studio would be like. After coming back to reality a bit, I select what painting’s are my favorites and the frames for them and on to the people viewing the art.

In addition, I have been working on a new approach to my Museum Paintings. In some of the future paintings I will be incorporating Still Life and an assortment of unique interiors. This entire series will remain with the theme of Art within Art, Paintings within Paintings and People Viewing Art.

My recent Segment to the Masters Series is my new Connoisseur Wine Masters Series. This is so exciting to me. I am really having a great time with this series and the ideas are just flowing so I know this will be a long series.

With this series I like to bring portions of the label into the dimension of reality, even if it is the foot of Etre's woman on to the leaf of the flower in the foreground of the painting. I like that little twist!

I will be doing several for each of my favorite artists and adding many more along the way as far back as the 14th Century. Because of the great success I had with the Museum paintings and the wonderful feedback I get every time I paint another Wine Label or Museum Exhibit, I have decided to dedicate an entire blog to my "Masters Series. http://paintingwiththemasters.blogspot.com

This one was wonderful to paint. I really got into it.
I think this may be one of my very favorite abstract paintings.
So many layers of thick impasto and paint. The nice thing about
abstracts is that you get to mix the paint right on the canvas while painting.
Beautiful enhancements of brilliant metallic copper and gold.

I have been a a Fine Art Restoration Artist and Appraiser for over 35 years. working with major clients and insurance companies for fire and water damaged art, antiques and collectibles. Some of my art restorations include
Picasso, Kandinsky, Kinkade and Neiman to name a few.

I Paint in many styles and subject matters, Realism, Abstract, Impressionism, Expressionism and whatever else may strike me.
I Paint in Series: Nudes, Abstracts, Figurative and Still Life.
However, my first love is my "Masters Series" of which I have I segmented. The first segment is The Art Museum Collection Series now followed by The Connoisseur Wine Masters Series also inspired by the old master painters. The Museum Series
theme is, Miniature Paintings of the Masters, paintings within paintings, including People viewing art.

The Connoisseur Wine Masters Series is the combination of two delicacies, Fine Art and Fine Wine utilizing small portions of the Masters works as my inspirations and tipping a small portion of the surreal into reality somewhere within the painting, Queries of the relationship between the art and the visible world.

My intentions are to create many segments within the Master Series.

Why I Use Canvas Hardwood Panels

Hardwood Panels and The Masters

Canvas is perceived by many people to be the best support for painting, but hardwood should not be shunned and in fact some would argue that it is a superior support as it is rigid, not flexible like canvas.

Many of the paintings that have survived the best from previous centuries are painted on wood panels. The surface being more rigid tends for less cracking of the paint.

Old Masters of the 14th & 15th centuries such as Michelangelo, Picasso and Van Gogh used wood panels primed with a chalk like material for their work as there was no canvas.

The Mona Lisa painted by Leonardo da Vinci in 1503-06 survives today and is painted on wood and in almost perfect condition and with little cracking.

Although they are quite time consuming to construct, I have chosen to use Custom Made Gallery Wrapped Linen Canvas
Hardwood Panels for all of my paintings.
